TORONTO, ON – Experience design company FORREC is thrilled to see the opening of LEGOLAND® Korea Resort, which includes a theme park and hotel. Located in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea, LEGOLAND Korea Resort is the first LEGOLAND Resort to be built on an island. Spanning 28-hectres, the park has seven themed clusters filled with over 40 interactive rides, shows, and attractions, perfect for kids and families. The Resort officially opened on May 5th, 2022.

Under Merlin Entertainments Ltd. and in collaboration with Merlin Magic Making, Merlin’s in-house creative and project delivery team, FORREC’s services ranged from developing the creatives and master plan design, schematic design all the way through to design development of the theme park. FORREC worked with Kay Elliot to develop a bold new design of a 4-storey, 154 room themed Hotel. LEGOLAND Korea is the first LEGOLAND Park to have the hotel stacked on top of the entrance to the theme park giving guests a spectacular view of the park. The construction of the hotel over the main gate creates an impressive welcome portal and hotel guests will wakeup to views over Miniland, one of the most iconic clusters within all LEGOLAND Resorts.

“FORREC collaborated closely with Merlin Magic Making to create many firsts for the IP on LEGOLAND Korea Resort which made for an incredibly exciting and rewarding process,” said Dennis Pyon, Vice-President of Operations, FORREC. “This is the first time a LEGOLAND hotel has been built inside the theme park – as hotel guests draw open the curtains in their rooms, they find themselves immersed in the middle of the action and are treated to glorious, unobstructed views of the park and surroundings. In taking on this inaugural task, FORREC embraced the challenge of finding the delicate balance between upholding the LEGOLAND brand essence throughout, with the opportunity to innovate and imagine a new and exciting experience for guests of the resort.”

In addition to the hotel, FORREC worked closely with Merlin Magic Making to develop and design several of the new clusters, including Bricktopia, Brick Street, and Pirate Shores. Throughout the Resort, FORREC also worked with the team to continue to incorporate sustainable practices: furniture is made from recycled plastic and materials, and all flora was sourced from indigenous species in the area.

“For over 20 years, FORREC has had a long-standing, relationship with Merlin Entertainments and the LEGOLAND brand, and we are incredibly fortunate to have them as great partners,” said Cale Heit, President and CEO, FORREC. “We are honoured to be able to work with them once again on creating this magnificent, unprecedented theme park and hotel. We are proud to have played a vital role in the creation, design, and development of these new experiences and we’re excited to see guests’ reactions as they go from their hotel to thrilling rides within seconds.”

Daily tickets and three types of annual passes – standard, gold, platinum – are now available to pre-book in advance on the LEGOLAND website: LEGOLAND.kr
