We believe how we give back says a lot about who we are. Our work in the community is organized by an exuberant team that we affectionately call the FUNraisers and Charity committee who help us give back to the community and raise funds for numerous worthy local causes.

Sustainability is part of FORREC’s corporate social responsibility mandate, and it has become a huge part of our organization; it’s embedded in our culture, values, and DNA. It’s our responsibility as a group of industry leaders and innovators to be a part of the solution. We categorize our sustainability efforts into three ways: Community, At the Office, and Client Projects:

  1. Community: We look at the community we work in and how we can make an impact locally, such as addressing waste reduction, being mindful of products and supply chains, consumption, and promoting health and wellness (such as walkability, active transportation, and public transit.)
  2. At the Office: Within our offices, our employees are actively engaged in making our workspaces a more sustainable, environmentally friendly place through simple measures such as hosting recycling information sessions, promoting reduced power usage by unplugging at the end of the day, and promoting wellness activities.
  3. Client Projects: The goal at FORREC is to implement sustainability measures on all our projects, from concept to design to CD to implementation. We are seeing growth in the uptake of sustainable ideas and solutions. Advocate for it throughout the design process- Concept to CD. We have the opportunity and ability to make recommendations and influence projects from the beginning to end.

SKETCH is a community arts enterprise engaging diverse young people in Canada, who live homeless or on the margins, experience the transformative power of the arts, including building leadership and self-sufficiency, and cultivating

social and environmental change.  Since 1996, over 10,000 youth have engaged in the arts and skill building at SKETCH. Since 2017, FORREC has supported SKETCH through championing the creative community and helping in the organization’s various initiatives, including Nourish where our employees prepare meals, or participate in the Art Salon.

SKETCH will be raising funds to support our Spotlight Scholarship Initiative. For each $5,000 scholarship, a Black artist at SKETCH will receive personalized professional development, skill building workshops, one-on-one mentorship, nutritious meals, and access to SKETCH’s 9,000 sq-ft space where they can safely develop their body of work towards public presentation.

Manulife Ride for Heart

Heart disease and stroke take one Canadian life every seven minutes, and that’s unacceptable. In 2019, FORREC raised $11,010 for the Ride for Heart campaign to help make heart disease and stroke a thing of the past by walking, running, and cycling on the Gardiner and DVP with 15,000 other amazing Torontonians.

CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish

The CP24 Christmas Wish program has become one of the largest distributors of toys to children in need in the Greater Toronto Area. In 2019, through our Secret Santa program, we released our inner child and gave each other gifts that were then donated. FORREC donated 15 heaving bags of toys to the program.

Clothing and Food Drives

Our offices are in Liberty Village so when the respite shelter opened a block away, we had the perfect opportunity to support our community! Throughout the year, the FORREC team collects and donates clothing and toiletries for men, women, children and even pets for St. Felix Centre.

We consistently run food drives for Second Harvest and Daily Bread Food Bank, making a special effort to donate vegetarian proteins such as beans, chickpeas, legumes and nut butters.

We also asked staff to donate to the Toronto Humane Society who asked for gently used towels and bedding to keep the animals comfortable through winter. A further four bags were dispatched to the River Street shelter.
