The Villages is a 20,000-acre development that has become one of Florida’s top rated lifestyle communities. FORREC designed three distinct areas within The Villages, each reviving a sense of history within their centre.
Establishing a relationship in the early 90s, FORREC first designed Spanish Springs which opened in 1995. Our creative reflected an historical interpretation of Spanish colonial architecture and landscape from residences to restaurants and a multi-purpose recreation centre. The client and residents were ecstatic for this planned downtown themed experience, two new areas – Sumter Landing and Brownwood – were added to the vast community, inspired by the best of 19th century small town America. Brownwood, for instance, has a distinct cowboy heritage which is a surprising fact about Florida’s own history.
With an understanding of the eventual clientele of The Villages, FORREC also paid particular attention to maintaining an accessible flow of visitors from neighbouring areas to keep each village prosperous and active. Each location’s vibrant town square featured exciting programming, restaurants, cafés and shops. The creativity and designed guest experience have helped to make The Villages one of the most successful lifestyle communities in North America, having tripled home sales since 1993.
