Panama Canal Canalside & Agua Clara Marina

The Agua Clara Marina at the Panama Canal is another phase of FORREC’s spectacular master plan to revive the Panama Canal’s tourism and longevity. The marina’s design is inspired by the Panama Canal workers who picnicked and lived amongst the small islands of Gatun Lake, embarking from the Manzanillo Island near historic Colon. The marina is a hub to exploring Gatun Lake’s ecology, a waterfront district that nods to the Canal’s rich history.

Working in phases, the Marina will develop into a thriving retail and dining experience and, being steps from a new cruise terminal, allows access for even more visitors to this historic and famed Canal.

Starting as a simple dock to allow these cruise ship passengers access to shore, a small craft market and lakeside restaurant round out the experience. Eventually, the plan is to add a headline attraction with increased retail and dining, as well as a gondola to support a more thrilling experience. As the destination matures, additional attractions such as a water or adventure park can be added as well as a more permanent cruise ship pier.

FORREC imagined a bustling boardwalk with a range of fishing trips, lake tours, cultural excursions and on-site attractions on offer for cruise-ship passengers. By providing a platform that encourages the further growth of third-party operators involved in eco-tourism, cruise-ships operators will find the Panama Canal that much more enticing.
