Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence

Toronto, Canada

Rooted like a rock, yet limitless like a cloud – this design metaphor describes how the building and landscape connect to form a landscape of learning. An innovative outdoor environment includes a robotics plaza for testing projects and tiered bleacher seating. Additional terraces provide students and faculty with welcoming green space for relaxation or study in a natural setting.

In keeping with the university’s precinct plan, the centre provides a dramatic focal point in the community. Its sloped green roof is designed to promote biodiversity and two storm water management ponds enhance the sustainability of the site.
