Skyflyers: Wings of Garudapterus, a giant swing ride attraction now open at Asiatique The Riverfront Destination in Bangkok.
It’s always fun to contemplate the evolution or “before and after” of a built project. Last year FORREC was tasked with creating the story and visual presence for Skyflyers: Wings of Garudapterus, a new landmark attraction now open at Asiatique The Riverfront Destination in Bangkok. This giant swinging tower ride, manufactured by Funtime Austria, brings together world-class engineering, immersive theming, and a strong narrative inspired by Thailand’s paleontological heritage.
Located next to Jurassic World: The Experience, the ride’s story centers around the Garudapterus, a prehistoric pterosaur species discovered in Thailand in 2023. FORREC developed the narrative framework, attraction branding (name and logo), building façade treatment, props, graphics, and experience planning (including queue design, ticket stations, and overall guest circulation).
Working closely with Asset World Corporation (AWC), FORREC guided the project beyond a conventional ride installation toward an immersive journey that demonstrates the power of storytelling in elevating attractions. Following exploration of three distinct creative directions, FORREC merged contemporary design sensibilities with local mythology, scientific discovery and geology.
The Skyflyers journey begins as guests approach The Rocky Outpost, aka the ticket office, themed to celebrate the “Site of the Find”. The journey then continues through a mining-shaft-inspired staircase to the Observatory Platform, where guests enjoy river views and food and beverage offerings that invite both riders and non-riders to linger.
